Official Languages Commissioner Visits ÎÛÎÛÂþ»
The FSLAC was honoured to host Graham Fraser, Canada's Commissioner of Official Languages, on April 11th, 2007. Commissioner Fraser spoke at Lawrence Park CI to more than 700 ÎÛÎÛÂþ» students from several elementary and secondary schools and at North Toronto CI to parents, teachers and trustees. He brought the message that studying French, be it core, extended or immersion, is an opportunity for students to develop intellectually and academically and that it is a stepping stone toward full participation in the public life of our country.
Students, parents and teachers asked the Commissioner for his support in improving their opportunities for quality FSL programming at the ÎÛÎÛÂþ». Commissioner Fraser commended the ÎÛÎÛÂþ» for its achievements in FSL - 100 000 students in core French and 18 000 students in Extended and Immersion programs. He hopes that the ÎÛÎÛÂþ» will continue to focus on expansion and improvements as an important partner in Canada's Action Plan for Official Languages.
