Last month, Winston Churchill CI proudly hosted the annual Muslim Students Association (MSA) Conference. This year’s event brought together over 400 students from 41 MSAs across the ÎÛÎÛÂþ», and centered around the powerful theme: Muslim Voices, Shaping Choices.
The day began with inspiring remarks from Director of Education Clayton La Touche and Trustee Zakir Patel, who set a warm and inclusive tone by emphasizing the importance of student voice. The event concluded with a heartfelt message from Trustee Neethan Shan, encouraging students to continue building supportive communities where they feel seen, valued and empowered.
Students participated in 15 engaging workshops led by both student leaders and community organizations, including the National Council of Canadian Muslims, Naseeha Mental Health and the Aga Khan Museum. Topics included mental wellness, identity, leadership, history and the arts.
Student leadership was at the heart of the day. A student from David and Mary Thomson CI led a mental health workshop, Winston Churchill CI students facilitated a session on The Islamic Contribution to Science, and Donwood Park PS students offered a creative storytelling workshop exploring identity through a three-panel comic format. The 2025 MSA Conference was a powerful celebration of identity, student voice and community.
