Expression of Interest 鈥� Secondary

In alignment with the the Student Interest Program Policy (P100), each applicant must submit an Expression of Interest as part of their Central Student Interest Program application:

6.3.5 Each type of 污污漫画 Centralized programs/schools will have standard interest-based admissions processes established by the Board, which include a demonstration of active interest or passion, where applicable. Students demonstrating interest or passion, will be eligible for the random selection process when demand exceeds available space.

The Expression of Interest must make reference to or be directly connected to the Central Student Interest Program and the type of program(s) to which you have applied, and must be written/created by the STUDENT applicant.

If you are applying to 2 different types of programs for your primary and alternate choices, your Expression of Interest may focus only on your primary choice program type, or you may opt to weave both interests into the same Expression of Interest. Please do not submit two different expressions of interest.
Please do not send Expressions of Interest to the requested school(s).

Ultimately, an Expression of Interest should clearly demonstrate why the applicant wants to attend the requested program(s).聽

Program Specific Details

Arts applicants may wish to provide samples of their work, but must also include something that clearly articulates why they would like to attend an arts-focus program.聽

Exceptional Athlete applicants are encouraged to highlight their interest and experience with personal fitness, leadership and/or athletics. They should highlight what aspect of the program most appeals to them and what they are hoping to gain and experience as a part of the program

Integrated Technology applicants are encouraged to make reference to UFA’s . They should highlight what aspect of the program most appeals to them and what they are hoping to gain and experience as a part of the program and how the program might support their future aspirations.

Please note that the Integrated Technology program at Ursula Franklin Academy is NOT a Math, Science and Technology program.

International Baccalaureate applicants are encouraged to make reference to the IB Learner Profile in their Expression of Interest. They should highlight what aspect of the program most appeals to them and what they are hoping to gain and experience.

Leadership applicants are encouraged to highlight their interest and experience with leadership. They should highlight what aspect of the program most appeals to them and what they are hoping to gain and experience as a part of the program and how the program might support their future aspirations.

Math, Science and Technology applicants should highlight particular areas of interest and experience within the fields of math, science and technology. They are encouraged to discuss the aspect of the program that most appeals to them and what they are hoping to gain and experience as a part of the MST program.

Suggestions for Applicants:

Only include extracurricular activities that are directly related to the program
Focus on why YOU want you are interested in the program and not on why other people have liked the program
Your emphasis should be on aspects of the program, and not be centred on accessing a particular school

Accepted file formats include: DOC, DOCX, PDF, TXT, RTF, XLS, XLSX, BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG or a link to an accessible, shared video/audio file.
One single uploaded PDF file is the preferred submission format where possible.

Expression of Interest Requirements and Samples for Secondary Applicants

Student original work with a maximum 1000 words that expresses interest as described above.

Written Submissions
Examples of Written submissions include blog, essay, opinion piece, poem, short story, script, etc.

Text-Based Submissions
Examples of Text-Based Submissions include PowerPoint, Canva, Mindmap, etc.

Maximum 5 minute audio or video submissions can contain a student performance that is connected to the program(s) and also includes an explanation articulating why the applicant is interested in attending the requested program Applicants can also use a recording to express their interest in participating in another type of Central Student Interest Program.

A link to the shared audio/video recording will need to be provided in the application submission. Please ensure that access has been given.

Maximum 3 photographs/ digital versions of student original artwork or projects accompanied by a brief description of the work and/or its meaning. Submissions must be accompanied by something expressing the applicants interest or desire to study in an Arts-focus program.
Where possible, please merge photographs and description(s) into a single document as modeled in the samples. One single uploaded file is the preferred submission format.

*Samples of student submissions from Fall 2023 have been included for your reference and to help applicants generate their own unique and personal submissions. Student artwork and written submissions/descriptions are not to be copied, downloaded or saved.

Applicant submissions must adhere to all 污污漫画 policies and procedures, including P031 - Human Rights. Expressions of Interest that contravene 污污漫画 policies and procedures will be addressed and the applications will be deemed incomplete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
