What to expect from the program

Train at our internationally-recognized program for a Red Seal Trade – you can take this skill and certification anywhere around the world! All learners will gain access to:Ìý

  • a complete tool kit, including everything you need to be successful during your trainingÌý
  • textbook with training materialÌý

Apprenticeship Program

Through this program, apprentices are prepared to write the Certificate of Qualification Examination for Hairstylists in Ontario and to be successful in this competitive industry through the provision of theoretical instruction in techniques such as cutting, styling, colouring physiology, hygiene and salon management and gain practical hands-on experience.Ìý

Hairstylist Apprentices require two levels of theory training. Studio500 offers this in the following ways:Ìý

  • Full time: 5 days a week, 8 weeks for each levelÌý
  • Part time: 2 days a week, 16 weeks for each levelÌý

To become a hairstylist apprentice:Ìý

  • Find an employer to hire and sponsor your training.Ìý
  • Sign a training agreement with your employer that is prepared by an Apprenticeship Branch consultant.Ìý

Our apprenticeship program includes hairstyling theory and hands-on training. We offer part-time and full-time classes. You can earn while you gain training, too. ÌýThere is a $400 class fee for registered apprentices to join our apprenticeship program.Ìý

Our program will prepare you for the Certificate of Qualification Examination for Hairstylists in Ontario, so you can become a fully licensed hairstylist in Ontario.Ìý

In order to register as a student with Studio 500 Hairstyling Apprenticeship program, you must have received your Offer of Classroom Training by mail from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.Ìý

Once you have received your Offer of Classroom Training, you may register in person at our East Mall location or by calling 416-394-6961 (payment by credit card required).Ìý

Eligibility: Is this program right for you?

In order to attend training at Studio 500:Ìý

  • Apprentices must be at least 16 years of age, and eligible to work in Canada;Ìý
  • Must have obtained an Ontario Secondary School Diploma;Ìý
  • Must be currently employed in the trade and formally registered as apprentices;Ìý
  • Apprenticeship eligibility is determined by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.Ìý
